English

At Gateway Academy our priority is to promote a life-long love of reading which will in turn support children on their journey to becoming confident writers and allow them access to the full curriculum on offer.

Phonics

At Gateway Academy we are committed to the delivery of excellence in the teaching of Phonics. We aim to develop each child so that they are able to read with fluency as well as develop a love of reading that will stay with our children all their lives.

Maths

From Early Years right through to Year 6, the children are taught to be fluent mathematicians who show great reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Science

We want to prepare our children for life in an increasingly scientific world. We want our children to foster concern and care for our environment and help them develop a growing understanding of scientific ideas

PE & Games

Physical Education is an integral part of our curriculum and we teach our children to understand the importance of physical activity, health and well-being.

Computing, I.T. and Digital Citizenship

By highlighting and exposing children to the breadth of technology around them, we aim for them to understand how it has shaped the modern world and begin to inspire children to imagine what they could do in the future

RE

We believe that all children, from any faith or culture, should feel welcomed into the school community and this is fostered through the learning and exposure to a variety of religions and worldviews.

Spanish

At Gateway Academy, Spanish is taught throughout Key Stage 2 (years 3-6). We believe that learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures, fostering pupils’ curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world.

Art & Design

We wish to inspire, engage and challenge pupils by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own works of art

Design & Technology

Design and Technology (D&T) prepares pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. They learn to think and intervene creatively to improve the quality of life

Music

Music is an integral part of our broad and balanced school curriculum. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement

Geography

At Gateway the teaching of Geography explores the relationship between people and places and the interaction between them on a local and global scale

History

We believe that ‘a high-quality history education will help our pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding about Britain’s past and that of the wider world’

PSHCE

We believe that good quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education prepares children for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life, whilst also supporting the well-being of children throughout their school career

Sustainability

We are constantly striving to make Gateway a more sustainable school. Sustainability is an integral part of the school ethos as we think about the impact that our actions have on the environment
