British Values at Gateway Academy

At Gateway Academy, British Values are not taught as a stand-alone subject. Instead, they are woven throughout our broad and ambitious curriculum, helping pupils to become confident, respectful and responsible citizens.
The table below shows how the five British Values: Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs—are explicitly taught and developed across subjects and year groups.
Many aspects of British Values are also developed through our wider school life, including assemblies, pupil leadership opportunities, educational visits, enrichment activities and our daily routines and expectations.
Our PSHE curriculum provides the most comprehensive coverage of British Values, particularly in helping pupils develop respectful relationships, understand rights and responsibilities, value diversity, make safe choices and prepare for life in modern Britain. We therefore encourage families to also explore our PSHE curriculum overview alongside this document to gain a complete picture of how British Values are embedded across our school.
